The Black Hair Experience: Review

The Black Hair Experience: A Black Hair Pop-Up Exhibit

Black Hair is…

The National Harbor's Black Hair Experience was a lot of fun! It was a dream come true to be able to play in a life-sized beauty supply store. My best friend and I were looking for something different to do on a Sunday afternoon that also included raw oysters and citrus libations, and the Black Hair Experience did not disappoint.

To be honest, you couldn't tell me anything because my amazing hair stylist Nina had gotten my hair all the way together the night before, so it was fitting that the next day I would spend it on a swing made in part of braiding hair, and whip my hair in a pop-up station featuring a backdrop of various colored combs, brushes, and hair picks. Numerous stations have been decorated in a way that only a Black girl could truly appreciate. Those of us who are old enough remember sitting in the kitchen at least once a month while your mother made that hot comb do what it did — there is a replica kitchen to remember the torture. lol

I was able to dive into a pool of orange rollers, similar to how kids dive into the ball pit at Chuck E. Cheese, and I even got my eagle on in a station decorated with iconic Black hair magazine covers. Surprisingly, this opened in Maryland while I was still living in New York; however, I have since learned that a Brooklyn Black Hair Experience has opened, so my NYC gals, go get your life!
